The Academy carries out active research and pedagogical work in the field of preschool education. It organizes short-term advanced training courses for preschool employees, practical seminars and talent workshops, master classes dedicated to the topical problems of preschool education. The Academy provides consultations on methodological issues surrounding the introduction of the Federal state education standards for preschool education.

Leading Russian and foreign specialists in preschool pedagogy and psychology teach at the Academy. It maintains active cooperation with the leading scholars from CIS states and other countries, which helps to enrich Russian preschool education with innovative foreign practices.

Specialists from the Academy are the members of several expert committees, whose activities are all the more important nowadays due to the major changes (both institutional and conceptual) going on in preschool education. The Academy organizes and participates in discussions on the topical issues of preschool pedagogy.

The Academy keeps close ties with the Journal “Preschool Education Today. Theory and Practice”, which highlights the latest achievements of the leading scholars from Russia and abroad. The Journal publishes not only research articles, but also the most noteworthy innovative projects by specialists and practitioners in preschool education.

The Academy, in cooperation with the Journal “Preschool Education Today. Theory and Practice”, holds various contests for pedagogues. Joint projects like these heighten the young people’s interest towards the careers in preschool education.

The Academy has well-established partnership relations in the field of preschool education. It participates in the joint projects with the RAE Institute for Psychological and Pedagogical Problems of Childhood, Vygotsky Institute of Psychology at the Russian State University for the Humanities, Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities, Moscow Open Institute, and other institutions.

1973-1980

Fellow at the Research Institute for Preschool Education, Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR.

Got master's degree with a thesis on development of time and space perceptions in preschoolers.

 
1985

Organized a course of lectures “Likening principle in psychology” at Lenin Moscow State Pedagogical Institute.

 
1990

Moved to the Faculty of Preschool Psychology at Lenin Moscow State Pedagogical Institute, where he attracted a group of young specialists interested in structural-dialectical approach in psychology and the ways of its practical application.

 
1991

Defended his doctoral thesis “Origin and development of preschoolers’ dialectic cognition”.

 
1997

Moved to the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology at the Moscow Pedagogical State University.

 

Nikolay Veraksa encouraged the establishment of the Journal “Preschool Education Today”. He has been its editor-in-chief since 2007.

Taught at the Moscow City University, Moscow State Pedagogical University, Moscow City Psychological and Pedagogical University, Russian State University for the Humanities, as well as various universities in Cuba, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, United Kingdom, United States, and other countries.

The founder and the Chairman of the International Committee of the Annual International Research-to-Practice Conference “Early Childhood Care and Education”.

Research interests and areas of expertise: psychology, pedagogy, psychology of preschool education, structural-dialectical psychology, concepts of early skills development, project activities for children.

In the late 1980s, he conceptualized his structural-dialectical approach in psychology. Based on the structural-dialectical analysis of psychological phenomena, this method made it possible to develop dialectical preschool and elementary school education, as well as positional education of higher education students. Structural-dialectical method has been successfully implemented in developmental social psychology and methodology of psychology.

Publishing activities

Nikolay Veraksa is an author of more than 150 published works, including the books in foreign languages.

He encouraged the establishment of the Journal “Preschool Education Today. Theory and Practice”. He has been its editor-in-chief since 2007.

He is an editorial board member of the journals “European Early Childhood Education Research Journal”, “Bulletin of the Moscow City Pedagogical University”, “Bulletin of the Russian State University for the Humanities. ‘Psychology’ section”, “North-Eastern Scientific Journal”.

In 2011, he developed a project plan for publishing the series of manuals “Higher Professional Education” (“Mozaika-Sintez” Publishing House).
